Call for Papers: Special Issue on "Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) for Structural Engineering"

Call for Papers for a Special Issue on "Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) for Structural Engineering" in Engineering Structures. This Special Issue is organized by Dr. Elyas Ghafoori (EMPA), Prof. Bassem Andrawes (UIUC), and Dr. Bin Wang.

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are high-performance metallic materials that have attracted a significant research attention recently in the field of civil engineering. SMAs can exist in two different phases of austenite and martensite. The reversible phase transformation from austenite to martensite and vice versa forms the basis for the unique behaviour of SMAs. Depending on different working conditions, there are primarily two thermomechanical phenomena associated with the phase transformation of SMAs: shape memory effect (SME) and superelasticity (SE). A wide variety of SMA-based technologies are currently being considered for enhancing the structural performance of both new and existing civil structures.
